100 Years of the East Side
As MIT celebrates the centennial of its Cambridge campus, this Whitescape focuses on its first locus of student life on the eastward side of the campus. While "East Campus" at MIT refers to both a specific undergraduate dormitory and the rough geographical stretch of campus from the Great Dome east to Kendall Square (and beyond to the Sloan School of Management), the term most intrinsically represents a spirit—one that animates the Institute by force of the independent and ingenious character of the engineer. My hope is that this tour offers a glimpse of that spirit among the buildings and lawns, alongside an inside look at how MIT grew from roots planted here.

Walk For Hunger
This street map of the City of Portsmouth actually represents not only the walking route for this fund drive. It also shows the walk that many of our homeless and low income residents travel daily in order to receive basic services such as food, clothing, healthcare, housing, and, if necessary, shelter for the night. This route is traveled daily through rain, snow, sleet, or sunshine during all seasons of the year. As you travel it today imagine yourself traveling it everyday on foot for your most basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter.

Boulder Loop Trail
The Boulder Loop Trail is located off of the Kancamagus Highway near the Covered Bridge Campground. The trail passes through boulder fields and various forest types. At its highest point, the trail takes you to 1,000 feet of elevation with ledges that offer spectacular views of the Passaconaway Valley. This guide will give insight to many features of the White Mountain National Forest. Fifteen stops are featured along the way, offering a glimpse of the forest’s history, biology, and Forest Service management. The stops are numbered in a clockwise order. Turn left at the first trail juncture. You will be guided by yellow blazes that mark the route. Please stay on the trail to reduce visitor use impacts on the surrounding area. Before you set off on your hike, make sure you are prepared and exercising safe hiking practices. It is recommended that you have supportive footwear such as hiking boots. Be sure to bring plenty of water. Contact the nearby Saco Ranger Station or refer to Hike Safe principles for more helpful strategies.

Sam Bell Maxey House SHS
Welcome to the Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic Site. This tour will help you explore the stories of the Maxey and Long families, their house, and their belongings. Sam Bell and Marilda Maxey built this house in 1868. The house was continually used and lived in by family members for almost a century after its construction. Upon the last family member’s death, the house and its contents, over 10,000 artifacts, became a museum. As you walk through the Maxey House today, the artifacts you see were the objects used by the family during their residence at the house. During your tour, be on the lookout for objects that you can touch, handle, and interact with throughout the house. These objects are clearly marked with signs to differentiate them from the museum’s artifacts. Once again, welcome to the Maxey House. We hope you enjoy your visit.
